Scholarship Categories

Six ways scholarships get handed out. Knowing which one you're reading tells you what to prepare.

Merit-based

For good grades, sports, or other achievements. No income check needed, and many are added automatically when you apply.

Need-based & financial aid

For families who need help affording the cost. You'll usually submit income proof or a separate financial aid form.

Government-sponsored

Funded by the country you're moving to, like Chevening or Fulbright. Generous, but expect a lot of competition.

University-specific

Given directly by the university you're applying to. Sometimes automatic, sometimes needs a short essay.

Subject-specific

For students in one subject area, like STEM or healthcare. Check if your course qualifies.

Diversity & access

For first-generation students, women in certain fields, or applicants from specific regions. Fewer applicants, better odds.

It takes a few minutes, and every match is tracked against your actual deadlines — not just added to a list you have to remember on your own.

It depends on the scholarship. University-specific awards are often bundled into your admission application, while government and third-party scholarships can usually be applied for in parallel with, or even before, your offer letter.
